From injured to unstoppable: Noosa Local Santana Takes Strength to New Heights...


This month we sit down and talk to Santana Schmidt about how she went from injuring her back doing deadlifts at a chain HIIT gym , to consistently breaking new records week after week for the past month with without any pain in sight

Q: What was the reason you decided to start working on your health and fitness to begin with?


Santana: Because Im only 23 and felt like everything was hard. I want more energy to be able to do more things. If it’s this hard now imagine how hard it’s going to get!


Q. What has stopped you in the past from joining a gym?


Santana: Because I thought that being a gym person was going to be wanky

Q. Tell us a little bit about your experience before starting at Pegasus and what led to you being injured


Santana: So obviously I had an epiphany it’s not wanky I want to be fit and healthy so I joined the chain gym for 1 session, did a 60kg deadlift very fast paced with no experience and I wanted to green out. For about a week after I could barely walk and I was going to work, my boss trains at Pegasus and he told me that my back should never hurt and very strongly recommended I come See angus and roxi at Pegasus!


Q. How did your experience with us differ from that?


Santana: I came into the onboarding and it was slow and steady and I could see what my body was capable of before pushing it to do things it had never done before



Q. Since starting with us, what are the biggest achievements you’ve made or what are you most proud of?


Santana: Being able to do a chin up! And learning the hinge movement and deadlift and actually being able to build towards a weight. And learning handstands, being able to hold myself up for more than 0.5 seconds


Q. What are your goals for the next 3 months? What do you want to be able to do physically at the end of this season?


Santana: Ohhhh fuck, umm I would like to be able to build on my handstands and get 1 full length chin up consistently but also I already feel like I’ve progressed so much in the short time since I’ve been here so yay being able to build on that. Just basically be sick and continue my life goal of being a mad dog.

Q. What do you love most about training here?


Santana: It’s like a little family and it’s super encouraging. I came here with no clue on how to do anything and every time I reach a goal or get a PB everyone is like “woohoo ring that bell!”


Q. What would you say to someone who was thinking about starting but sitting on the fence?


Santana: Do it. I can’t rate it highly enough


Q. Anything else you’d like people to know?


Santana: That being a gym junkie ain’t wanky. Being fit is fly
